How to make money in Harvest Town
Crops, animals and fishing compared with the game’s real numbers, so you can put your energy where the coins are.

Quick answer
Farming is the engine, animals are the passive income, fishing is the bonus. A full field of the best crop (Jinjunmei at Best quality) earns about 762 coins per plot per 28-day season (27.2/day). Chickens pay for themselves in ~25 days and then produce forever. And the seven Fish Kings are jackpots worth up to 15,243 coins each - but you can’t plan a budget around them.
Crops: the main engine
Crops scale with how much land and water you can manage, and the ceiling keeps rising with your Farming skill (quality tiers multiply prices). At Good quality the best crop is Biluochun at 14.6 gold/day - at Best quality it’s Jinjunmei at 27.2 gold/day. Full rankings, quality tiers and Manor-level filters: crop profit calculator; per-season detail in the best-crops guide.
Animals: passive daily income
Animals produce every day with no field space and no watering. Payback times at basic-quality prices (feed assumed free via grazing):
| Animal | Buy | Income/day | Pays back in | Products |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | 20 | 25 d | Egg | |
| 900 | 31 | 29 d | Duck Egg, Duck Feather | |
| 600 | 20 | 30 d | Milk | |
| 1,500 | 43 | 35 d | Goose Egg, Goose Feather | |
| 1,900 | 49 | 39 d | Wool |
Fondness raises product quality and price over time, so these numbers are a floor. Feather prices (ducks, geese, peacocks, alpacas) aren’t published on the wiki - enter yours in the animal calculator.
Fishing: flexible bonus income
Early fishing (level ≤ 10, cheap bait) tops out around 128 coins per catch for common species like Mudskipper, Ya Fish, Barbel. The real money is in the seven Fish Kings - level 40+, king bait, narrow time windows:
| Fish King | Location | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Manor River | 5,732 | |
| Town River | 6,146 | |
| Eastern Town (Lake and River) | 5,020 | |
| Peak/Mountain Top | 5,020 | |
| Reef/Abyssal(Occult Sand) | 15,243 | |
| Abandoned Factory/Guild | 7,508 | |
| Occult Cave | 5,825 | |
| Swamp | 4,980 |

A practical money plan
- Week 1: Clear and plant any-season garlic/potato; buy a chicken (500) as soon as the Poultry House exists.
- Month 1: All fields in the best crop you’ve unlocked; chickens → cow; fish the Manor River with primary bait between chores.
- Manor 19: Switch spring/winter to tea. This is the single biggest income jump in the game.
- Manor 27+: Complete the tea set (Maojian, Jasmine), upgrade barns, and start collecting Fish Kings with saved king bait.
- Greenhouse: Jinjunmei year-round - it’s the best crop in the game, so any protected plot grows it.
Things that quietly drain coins
- Buying feed when forage seeds cost 3 coins - graze animals on planted forage instead.
- Replanting long crops late in the season - a 12-day lifespan crop planted on day 24 wastes the field. The calculator’s “days remaining” input catches this.
- Selling raw what crafts high - beans → tofu, milk → cheese-style goods often beat raw prices (workshop recipes are outside this guide’s dataset; check the workshop in-game).
